You cannot beat this location. It's nothing fancy but it is clean and well appointed and in the best part of Sydney. Being right in the city of course it is going to be a bit noisy but that the hustle and bustle added excitement to our stay. We will definitely be back—— bourboncatt
as if having a fabulous location, a really nice little room, and friendly and helpful staff wasn't enough... Chris, the owner, stepped in when our bags were lost and saved our trip. She made phone calls to the airlines and the baggage handlers and our bags were returned. We loved out time in Sydney and loved the City Crown!
The cafe would have been a nice cafe even if it wasn't attached to the motel.—— GaelB241
We had some minor concerns that we, as elderly UK tourists, might be out of the normal range of this Motel's clientèle, but we need not have worried. The staff were very straightforward and exceptionally helpful. The room was (of course) not large but completely adequate and the outside balcony/deck was a charming addition. Car parking was tight but available - typically when we came to leave and found ourselves boxed-in everyone was great about it and we soon got away. The pavement cafe breakfasts were another delightful experience. Yes, there was a certain amount of noise and nocturnal coming and going in this busy place, both inside and outside the building, but that was a minor inconvenience compared to the overall experience.—— Nick W
We stayed here for 2 nights in a double room with a balcony. We arrived late at night and the guy at reception was very nice and friendly. Our room was good it had a big bed and tv but the bathroom had a leek in the roof quite badly too. The balcony area was amazing, in the morning we looked down on queen street and the courtyard area where the motel also has a cafe and it was very busy with people having there breakfast that looked delicious. All the autumn trees were beautiful aswell. On the first night we had a bit of a problem with dvd player (as you can watch as many as you want from the collection at reception) and the guy kindly came and got us a new one at midnight. It's in such a nice area surrounded by cool restaurants and shops. It's very clean. We loved our weekend in Sydney.—— BigTrip11
Very clean and relatively quiet budget motel. Staff are lovely and helpful. Free DVDs, A/C. We got 2 queen beds for the price of one - bed on the left was a dream (room 33). Shower squirted mostly everywhere but down, enough to do the job though. Would definitely stay here again, given the price of other central Sydney accommodation. Gay couple (late 20s) - staying 2 nights between moving house and attending job interviews (iron and ironing board in the basement).—— Dobsul
Stayed here once and would stay again. Good location, quite central and close to Oxford Street and the CBD. Alot of cafes and shops within walking distance. The room was clean and the bathroom was spacious. The lady at the reception was odd but lovely nonetheless. For the price you pay, this place is definitely worth it.—— CarolC132
Sydney is an expensive city. It's hard to find accommodation for two, bathroom included, for a little over 100$. This is what Crown Motel offers, but don't expect any luxuries. The rooms are clean, but worn-up already and rather small. Internet is free, although you rarely get the signal anywhere outside the reception. Still, The Crown Motel has several indisputable advantages: location (right in the heart of Surry Hills, with quick access to Oxford Street, Paddington, Central Station), proximity to several good places to eat, drink and have fun in, and friendly staff. In the end, being in Sydney, you will be spending majority of your time outside, so Crown Motel can be a good choice for those traveling on lower budget, but still wanting to stay in the city center. Recommended.—— MarcinPWarsaw
Just returned from New Years Eve at City Crown Motel and although it is hard to judge value for money on the rate we paid, it was NYE Sydney style and the price reflected this. That said the rooms were clean and quite comfortable for what would be a standard tariff. The view from the small balcony was actually better than alot of bigger 4-5 star motels. As is often the case with a smaller family run motel the service from the time we arrived till the time we departed was excellent and although I never got the womans name she was a true gem and made us feel most welcome. Nothing was a hassle to her. An added bonus to City Crown Hotel is Room 9, the cafe at street level which was great for recovery breakfast New Years morning. Overall I would rate City Crown Motel as being ideally located close to Oxford St and city with good secure parking and being good value for money.—— bluemountainkiwi
I stayed at the City Crown with my daughter for a week in January and was thrilled with our find.
Room rates are very competitive (we paid around AU$100 for a double room), and due to a last minute cancellation we were upgraded to a deluxe room for no extra charge. As was expected, the room was quite small, but had everything we needed (TV, DVD, bar fridge, new ensuite bathroom, desk, balcony, coffee/tea, wireless internet etc) and had obvously been recently renovated.
The staff were incredible, unlike any we have experienced before, and made us feel at home straight away. Location was brilliant, 10 minute walk to Hyde Park/CBD, 2 mins to Oxford St, heaps of great bars and restaurants very close.
The on-site Cafe was also excellent, particularly the breakfast menu.
The only negatives would be the appearance of the hallways (we were told that the owners are still in the process of renovating), size of rooms, very limited lock-up parking (book ahead), and minor damage to some of the furniture.
Overall a great stay and I would recommend to anyone looking for affordable accommodation in central Sydney.—— Beachie84
